Prevention Programs

Enhancing the quality of life and independence of our community’s seniors and vulnerable residents through comprehensive housing, financial, and emergency support services.

Heating & Cooling

The Heating & Cooling Program at Senior Citizens United Community Services (SCUCS) is dedicated to keeping Camden County seniors (aged 60+) safe and comfortable during extreme weather. We provide one-time financial aid for essential heater and central air conditioning repairs or replacements, ensuring that vulnerable residents maintain a habitable and healthy home environment year-round.

Lending Closet

The Medical Appliance Lending Closet Program at Senior Citizens United Community Services (SCUCS) offers a temporary solution for Camden County seniors (aged 60+) who need durable medical equipment but cannot afford to purchase it. We loan out essential items such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, shower chairs, rollators, and commodes to those in financial need. In addition, a very limited supply of adult diapers and bed pads may be available depending on current donations. All equipment is provided on a temporary loan basis to assist during recovery or while awaiting permanent equipment.

Rental Assistance

The Rental Assistance Program at Senior Citizens United Community Services (SCUCS) serves as a critical safeguard against homelessness for residents of Camden and Gloucester Counties. By offering one-time financial support for back rent to prevent eviction, or security deposits to help secure affordable housing, we provide the stability needed to keep individuals and families from being displaced.

TBRA Program

The Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) program at Senior Citizens United Community Services (SCUCS) offers temporary financial aid to low-income families in Camden County (excluding Camden City) who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or fleeing dangerous situations such as domestic violence. Unlike unit-based housing, TBRA offers household flexibility, allowing you to choose any eligible rental unit and take your assistance with you if you move. To ensure a successful transition to permanent housing, the program also connects clients with supportive services including case management, substance abuse treatment, and landlord-tenant liaison assistance.

Utilities & Fuel

The Utility Assistance Program at Senior Citizens United Community Services (SCUCS) prevents dangerous service interruptions for Camden and Gloucester County residents facing financial hardship. We provide one-time assistance to resolve overdue utility bills to stop shut-offs, as well as emergency aid for heating fuel when tanks run low, ensuring homes remain warm and functional.
